Kent State University Hockey is a ACHA Division I team participating in the CSCHL. The CSCHL is the premier ACHA Div I  League in the country with six teams advancing to the National Tournament each of the past 10 seasons. College hockey at KSU has been a tradition for over 30 years.

The on campus hockey arena at KSU is one of the finest ACHA facilities to be found. The facility is currently undergoing major renovations to add locker rooms and improve seating.

The Ice Arena was built in 1970 and contains two ice rinks, one used mostly for recreational skating and one for hockey.

Hockey players with above average skills who would like to extend their playing careers while attending Kent State University are invited to contact our coaching staff to arrange for a visit to explore the educational and playing opportunities offered at KSU.
The following information has been compiled to assist players who are researching college educational and hockey opportunities. KSU can provide a great place for both of these needs for many, but prospective students and athletics are encouraged to explore the available options to find the best fit for their individual circumstances
Education is First and Foremost - Find a school that fits your educational requirements. Regardless of the level of your hockey skills, you will probably be looking for a job after college. For complete details about the educational opportunities at KSU, click here.
Research College Hockey - Below are 4 key factors that are of importance in researching college hockey programs. We have provided information about KSU Hockey, so when you research other programs, you can easily compare
  • Level of Play, ACHA Division I is comparable to a mid-range NCAA Division III program. ACHA teams often play exhibition games against Division III teams and the scores are usually very close with the ACHA teams often coming out on top.

Players at the ACHA Division I level have previously had good success at the Midget AAA, Junior A, or Junior B levelsin the U.S. and Canada.  Very exceptional high school players can also sometimes make the step up to ACHA Division I.
  • Tuition Costs, This can often be a highly determining factor in your choice of schools. The tuition cost at KSU is very attractive when compared to many smaller private schools.
  • Hockey Arena Facility,   An on campus arena is almost always a much better choice. An off campus rink with a small student population is usually a pretty good indication that there is no team fan base. KSU offers a rink on campus with a large student population and draws good crowds for home games. Most of the other teams in the Central States Collegiate Hockey League also have on campus rinks, and the fan base and attendance for away games is very good.
  • Playing Time, If your hockey skill and experience level is high enough to maybe make a higher level team, don't forget to consider the playing time that you will receive if you do make the team. No team can make honest promises about the success that you will achieve in their program. Wherever you play, your playing time and success will be directly proportionate to your abilities and effort.
